Winners again! Vibrant Communities celebrated with national planning award

Winning feels awesome, doesn’t it?

On top of the successes from Elkhart County’s cities and towns collaborating and working together on projects, the Vibrant Communities movement racked up another award recently.

On April 14, 2019, the Vibrant Communities Action Agenda was awarded the 2019 Vernon Deines Honor Award for an Outstanding Comprehensive Plan or Special Project for a Large Jurisdiction.

“The Awards Committee was incredibly impressed with this plan, and feel it embodies the best of small town planning. They appreciated the regional context and approach taken to form collective action for the County and towns,” wrote Anna Laybourn, vice chair of the American Planning Association’s Small Town and Rural Planning Division. The committee also praised implementation efforts, including the creation of the Little BIG Idea Grants.

It’s the second award the Vibrant Communities movement has garnered. In March 2018, we received the Outstanding Communication and Outreach Award from the Indiana chapter of the American Planning Association.

We’re on a roll!
