For Christina Sanchez Ramirez, 2018 was an amazing year.  In December, she graduated from Ivy Tech as a Medical Assistant.  While in school, Maple City Health Care Center gave her the opportunity to have her externship with them and then hired her.

In December, Christina she was the admitted to “The National Society of Leadership and Success” (NSLS) from Ivy Tech Community College. The NSLS is the nation’s largest leadership honor society for which students are selected by their college for membership and induction. It is based on academic standing and leadership potential and is considered an honorable distinction.

Christina came to the United States from Toluca, Mexico with her family when she was 16.  Like many who have made that journey looking for a better life and education.  One of her family mottoes is “We came to America to win.”  It has not been easy.  Three years ago, she lost her only brother to a brain-related illness that devastated her family. In the midst of her own grief, she had to carry her parent’s sadness and help them overcome their pain while continuing to keep her work and school schedule going.  She says, “I have met great people in this country, specially here in Elkhart. I am very blessed to have such great people around and for this beautiful life!”

Her friend, Anita Knudston says of Christina, “She has a delightful personality, a gentle kindness about her and a genuine desire to do the right thing for everyone. She is honest, trustworthy, resilient, grateful and very adaptable.”

Christina loves music, travel, family and children.
