Sure, bringing the community together around the arts is a great goal to strive for, but it’s just plain fun!

When Nayo Ulloa (right, photo above) submitted his little BIG Idea Grant application for a Latino arts festival in the Goshen Arts Alley, it didn’t take the review committee long to decide: “Yes!”

And we were so excited that we just had to take the check to him.

Steve Gruber (left, photo above) and Amy Worsham, members of the grant review committee (Amy is also the city of Goshen’s arts coordinator), brought a “check” for $750 and balloons to surprise Nayo over lunch at Anna’s Bread. Here’s how it went down:

Nayo described his event, “Encuentro In the Alley” on Oct. 21 as follows: “A Latino Arts Festival will bring together Latino artists and craftspeople from the Goshen area with the wider community. … This event will share Goshen’s rich diversity in Latino and Latin American art of all forms with the public, celebrating this important part of the arts community.”

Nayo sees Encuentro In the Alley as an avenue to bridge Anglo and Latino cultures in “La unidad a través del arte” — (unity through the arts).

We can’t wait!
