Announcing Block Grants

The Elkhart County Block Grant Program is part of the Vibrant Communities initiative designed to support local residents in creating positive change where they live. This program offers small grants to fund projects that promote community engagement, beautification, and revitalization across neighborhoods in Elkhart County.

Program Goals

We want to empower YOU to take the lead in improving your neighborhood! We set out to create a program that appeals county-wide and has a meaningful impact on Elkhart County neighborhoods and communities. Together, we can turn your creative ideas into reality and build a stronger, more vibrant community right where you live!

So, how do you get your idea jumpstarted with a Block Grant? The process couldn’t be simpler!

Project types

Block Grants are great for bringing all different types and sizes of projects to life with your neighbors. Maybe you have some smaller fun activities in mind, like block parties, neighborhood clean-ups, tree planting, or small garden installations. Or perhaps your neighborhood could use something a little bigger, like inviting seating areas, colorful public art installations, or organizing broader-scale community events. Maybe everyone on your block is thinking really big–like upgrading playgrounds, implementing neighborhood safety measures, beautiful streetscaping, or enhancing community spaces. Just let us know your ideas!

• Small Projects: Block parties, neighborhood clean-ups, tree planting, or small garden installations. 
• Medium Projects: Seating areas, public art installations, or organizing broader-scale community events. 
• Large Projects: Upgrading playgrounds, implementing neighborhood safety measures, streetscaping, or enhancing community spaces.

You and your neighbors will need to chip in a little as well. For small projects, you’ll need to match 50% of the funds awarded by the Block Grant. For medium and large projects, the match is 40%. Matches can be made financially or through in-kind donations of goods or services to help your neighborhood idea come to life!
