The Goshen College Center for Community Engagement, in partnership with Vibrant Communities, presents the 2024 Community Engagement Fair, March 6, on the campus of Goshen College
GOSHEN — The Center for Community Engagement at Goshen College will partner with Vibrant Communities to present the 2024 Community Engagement Fair, March 6 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the College Mennonite Church Fellowship Hall—1900 South Main Street—on the campus of Goshen College.
The Community Engagement Fair, open to all Goshen College students, faculty, staff, and members of the local community, is free to attend with no registration required. Vibrant Communities co-chair Arvis Dawson and Yolo Lopez DeMarco, the founder of the Latino Business Expo, will be guest speakers and the event will include the presentation of the 2024 Vibrant Student Award.
The Vibrant Student Award is given to a Goshen College student who has done exemplary work in the Elkhart County community and who exemplifies the Goshen College mission.
“Goshen College has the motto ‘Culture for Service’ and part of the reason for that motto is the importance the college places on community involvement, volunteerism, and community service,” said Arvis Dawson and Suzie Weirick, co-chairs of Vibrant Communities, in a joint statement. “We are happy to partner with Goshen College and the Center for Community Engagement to present this event. This will be a great opportunity for students and community residents to find out how to be involved with local organizations to make a positive impact in the local community.”
Representatives from community organizations such as CAPS, Ecosistema, EnFocus, Goshen Theater, the Tolson Center, and others will be present to share information about their missions to let students and community members know of the many ways and opportunities to get involved.
Interactive booths will allow students and attendees to explore the diverse range of hands-on experiences available, leading to networking and volunteering opportunities within the local community.
“The Community Engagement Fair is a great way for our nonprofit partners to meet and recruit students and members of the community for volunteer opportunities and internships,” said David Kendall, Director of Career Networks at Goshen College. “This year we’ll host over 30 non-profits, and we are grateful for this year’s partnership with Vibrant Communities.”
“This is one of the most impactful events we do,” said Cyneatha Millsaps, Executive Director for the Center for Community Engagement at Goshen College. “This event brings Elkhart County together with Goshen College in the spirit of service and it is a great way for us to connect community members with organizations, and vice versa, and help build valuable relationships in the community.”
