You can be forgiven if you’re still coming off a high from last weekend’s Elkhart Jazz Festival.
The 30th anniversary of the festival June 23-25 highlighted so the arts and culture, talent and creativity, and community spirit that makes the Elkhart area so great:
- A world class festival that attracted a diverse lineup of talented artists such as Ben Folds.
- A bustling downtown Elkhart scene that had an intoxicating mixture of live music, great food and people of all generations enjoying a beautiful, sun-splashed weekend.
- The majestic grandeur of the Lerner Theatre serving as the backdrop for performances by Ramsey Lewis, Terence Blanchard and the E-Collective, and Ben Folds.
- Amazing local talent led by the Elkhart County Symphony (under the direction of Goshen College’s Jose Rocha) but also a number of local musicians such as Lalo Cura and VibeNation.
Jose Rocha said it best in this piece published on Goshen College’s website: “What is memorable to me is how fearless people were. Everybody was very committed and I’m excited that the orchestra got to play with such a big artist.”
