Allison Tinsley is today’s Vibrant person!
Years ago, there was a one hit wonder that was all over the radio. It was called “Tubthumping.” You know it: “I get knocked down, but I get up again. You’re never gonna keep me down.” The record came out years before Allison Tinsley was born, but the lyrics are so appropriate for this twelve-year-old. Allison is one tough cookie and that girl isn’t about to stay down.
Two years ago, Allison was having a problem with headaches. The cause was an abnormal connection of blood vessels around the brain called an arteriovenous fistula (AVF). There is nothing good about it. No parent wants to hear that this is what has afflicted your child.
Allison is a gymnast. Make note of the present tense. She was told to quit, but the kid had too much spunk to let that happen. She underwent a treatment called gamma knife radiation. It is a kind of brain surgery that helps reduce the AVF. Not long after she was in the operating room she was back in the gym.
It takes three years to determine if the surgery has worked. One more year to go. There have been setbacks. Allison has had problems with balance. A broken wrist cost her this past season. A few other complications have come about. It has taken a while to get back in the groove doing her schoolwork. It has not been easy for Allison, but she doesn’t quit.
With the love and support of her family, Allison is doing well. Despite all that has happened, she remains upbeat. She is outgoing and friendly. She is kind. She likes art and singing and unicorns. She is out there competing, playing and enjoying life.
No one knows what will happen next for Allison. We are confident though, whatever comes her way she will deal with it head-on. Her attitude is amazing. No one is going to keep this girl down.
