Jane Allen is today’s Vibrant person!
There are some that will tell you teaching is nerve-wracking. Others will say being a school principal is a grind. Then there are those that say there is nothing rewarding about being in academic administration. Then there is Jane Allen, the Superintendent of Middlebury Community Schools. She would probably tell you, “Boy, do those people have it wrong.”
Jane Allen loves her job. In fact, when it comes to education, she has loved every position she has held over a lengthy career. “I am the most fortunate person on earth,” she says. “I get to do what I love every single day. My whole life has been about kids. I love kids. It is what I get to do with and for kids that makes me happy.” She adds: “The magic of life is children.”
Whether it’s in the gym, on stage, in the band room, at the debate podium or setting up for a dance, Jane loves to watch kids in action. As valuable as their classroom activities are for youngsters, Jane also recognizes the importance of extra-curricular activities. That is where they often find their passions. Jane knows this, respects them for it and wants to see them excel. “They deserve someone who appreciates what they are doing, and I do,” she says.
Jane is a movie buff. That may be putting it mildly. Her tastes are varied and that makes it more interesting. Here are a few films that Jane believes everyone should see at least once:
- The Godfather
- Sound of Music
- Field of Dreams
- The Birds
- Gone With the Wind
- Apollo 13
- American President
That’s a great list for everyone from the uninitiated to the serious cinephile.
Finally, this being March, we think you should know one other thing about Jane. She was an Assistant Coach of the Southport High School Girl’s basketball team. That was in 1980, the year they won the Indiana State Championship. Admit it, Jane is pretty darned cool.
