Momentum is picking up with the Little BIG Idea Grants program, with three new grants being announced in the last week.
The great thing is that two of them are going to projects focused on kids. Here are the next recipients:
1. Elkhart Central High School 3D Art class
The students, taught by art teacher Beth Sokolowski, will be collecting the stories of Elkhart residents’ life experiences and expressing those stories in sculpture. From the group’s application, Beth wrote, “We all have a story to tell. Stories of past experiences, hardships that we’ve overcome and triumphs. These stories help mold us and make us who we are today.” Elkhart Central drama students are also involved in this project, as they will depict these stories through live performance on stages across the area.

2. Goshen Youth Arts
Leah Schroeder of Goshen Youth Arts proposed a project in which students ages 11-19 would each distribute a photo of themselves to all other artists. Then each student would interpret that photo into their own piece, resulting multiple paintings, drawings, etc., of each student’s portrait.
Leah is pretty excited to have received the grant, which was announced at the Vibrant Communities Making Great Places event on Oct. 18, 2017:
3. Powerhouse Market
Macey Judd and Sarah Beiler are planning a Christmas artisan market at the Goshen Powerhouse and in the area surrounding it on the Millrace Canal on Nov. 18, 2017. It will feature live entertainment, food and activities as well as number of artisans displaying their wares. We’re getting in the Christmas spirit already!
